These are answers to the most common questions I am asked at initial inquiry stage and are intended to help determine if I am a good fit for your project.
Do you undertake custom work for personal use?
The effort, time, and budget required to complete illustrations means my custom work is not practical for personal use projects. How much does a typical custom project cost?
My typical custom projects cost between $3k to $10k (USD) for logo design, illustrations, etc which usually require exclusive usage rights and unique elements. How long does it take to complete a project?
My custom projects take a minimum of 6 weeks from commencement to completion, but can take much longer depending on the scope. Scheduling of commencement of projects is dependent upon the size of my order book and is typically handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
How does the process work?
Understanding your requirements, scope, budget and timeline will help me determine if I am a match for your project. So, I begin by asking you a series of questions to help me determine this via my custom work inquiry form. After reviewing your inquiry, if we feel we are a good fit for one another, I will collect a detailed brief and provide a quotation for the work.
Upon acceptance of the quotation, I will prepare sketches for your consideration, taking into account all the details I have learned about your project. Prior to commencement, we will agree on the number of revisions and feedback loops required which will be dependent upon the complexity of the project. I will work with you, in accordance with that schedule to finalize artwork and once accepted the ready-to-use files in the agreed formats will be delivered to you electronically along with the usage rights license.
What rights do you grant for commercial usage?
Projects that involve entirely new illustrations are almost always provided with exclusive rights usage in perpetuity, meaning that you have the freedom to use the artwork however you choose and forever.
Where projects include illustrations from my existing catalogue, I issue non-exclusive ‘as-is’ usage rights, meaning the illustrations do not have to be modified by you for commercial use purposes.
The costs for usage rights are included in the total project cost and are calculated as part of the quotation.
